Guizhou Institute of Technology, Alibaba Cloud, and the education-based company Uniquedu have joined forces to build China's first Alibaba Big Data College to offer undergraduate-level degrees. The program, which has admitted 295 undergraduate students in its first year, signals the first time that colleges, research institutes, and corporate technology education have begun to share their resources.

"As the China's first big data talent development college built by higher education and Alibaba, our institute will facilitate the integration of theory in real world applications," Guizhou Institute of Technology's Secretary of Party Committee Zeng Yu said in a statement. The degree curriculum is laid out as 3+1, which means 3 years of theory learning and 1 year of practical training. The institute has set itself the mission to innovate and to serve the community, developing talents to meet the country's future demand for big data professionals as the domestic industry grows.

Alibaba is bringing corporate-level skills, professionals, teaching resources, and business practice into the institute to build a competitive, big-data degree program, Alibaba Cloud's Yang Ming said.
