Xi Calls for Innovation and Quality in Manufacturing Sector
Chinese President Xi Jinping, on a visit to one of the world's largest construction machinery makers, called for more research and development in the equipment manufacturing sector, saying that companies should focus more emphasis on quality and innovation rather than speed.
"Innovation is the source of business core competitiveness," Xi said, pointing to the need for additional investment to increase new developments. "Core technologies cannot be bought."
Xi's comments came during a two-day trip in China's Jiangsu Province, where he inspected a number of facilities. His first stop was at the Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group Co. Ltd., where he called for the company to increase its technological capabilities to bolster its business and contribute more to the economy and social needs.
Xuzhou Construction, which is growing rapidly, has used intelligent assembly lines and big data platforms to create advanced heavy-duty machinery.
Xi also used the visit to encourage Chinese companies to shift their focus from "Made in China" to "Created in China" as a way to emphasize more quality than simple efficientcy.
